Bayou City Arts Festivals
Held in the spring and the fall, the festivals showcase both local and national artists in a variety of disciplines. The festivals are operated by the Art Colony Association.
WAMM is adjacent to Houston's Museum District, currently including 19 organizations, ranging from The Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH)—the fourth largest museum in the country—to The Menil, Contemporary Arts, Asia Society, Holocaust, Buffalo Soldiers, Natural Science, Czech, Children's, African Amercan Culture, Health, and other museums and art centers such as, the Houston Center for Contempory Craft (HCCC), Diverse Works, and more.
Located about 3 miles away in Downtown Houston is the Theater District, home to The Alley Theater, Jones Hall, Hobby Center, Revention Music Center, Wortham Theater, among others. It hosts performing arts companies that include: Society for the Performing Arts, Houston Ballet, Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Da Camara, and Theater Under the Stars.
Nearby, take advantage of outdoor performances at Miller Outdoor Theater and at the MFAH Plaza. In addition, throughout WAMM's surrounding area is a variety of intimate music venues, such as Heights Theatre, the Continental Club, Mucky Duck, Under the Volcano, Axelrad, Numbers, The Music Box, and others offering live performances.
WAMM hosts one of the many public and outdoor art pieces to appreciate throughout the city. Artists are constantly creating new and vibrant pieces for all of us to enjoy. In the spring, Houston enjoys the Annual Art Car Parade. The event, organized by The Orange Show, features an array of mobile art.
Located in historic Third Ward, PRH is a five-block, 39-house cultural initiative that houses community enriching projects and art activities.
WAMM is at the center of the creative arts scene. In the area are galleries where you can purchase art, attend student shows and performances to support up and coming artists, and art training organizations (Art League, MFAH Glassell School, and The Watercolor Art Society—Houston) if you'd like to get your own creative juices flowing. Private studio and galleries in the area also offer learning and participation opportunities from time to time.
WAMM Civic Association is a 501(c)(3)not for profit organization. The WAMM neighborhood is bordered by Westheimer, Alabama, Montrose, and Mulberry streets. We work together to build a safe, inclusive community for our residents and to share helpful resources and information to enrich our quality of life.
